This summer, Grace is interning with the Department of Health and Human Services in the Office of Intergovernmental and External Affairs (IEA), which plays a critical role in the Department's operations. IEA is responsible for forming, fostering, and leveraging all of the Department's external relationships, from state and local government partners to private corporate partners. These relationships are essential to the Department, as they could never achieve their goal - to provide quality healthcare to every American - alone. In her role, Grace has gained exposure to a variety of issues and initiatives. Some examples of her work include: staffing the Department's Healthy Women, Healthy Families event that took place after the White House's United States of Women; drafting letters of appreciation to partners from Secretary Burwell; sitting in on high-level partnership meetings between HHS, CMS, patient advocacy groups, and/or philanthropic organizations; and writing memos to prepare the Secretary for partnership meetings. This internship is co-funded by the IOP.
