This summer I am interning at St. John's Research Institute in Bangalore, India. Working within the data science team in the division of nutrition, I am helping on a project to analyze body composition with a data set of 10,000 urban South Indian children and adolescents. Essentially, I am working to find ways to better understand how body composition changes as a function of age for males and females so that doctors and researchers can more accurately identify concerns and problems than they would be able to using just BMI alone. It has been great to work with the amazing data science team here, and I am getting to learn a ton about applied math, data science, and statistics and their important place in public health.
