This summer, I am working at the Y.R. Gaitonde Centre for AIDS Research to implement the pilot intervention portion of a study hoping to study the causes of loss from the HIV care continuum in India. The intervention targets multiple potential risk factors for loss to care such as stigma, poverty, and depression. We are also regularly shadowing doctors for both inpatients and outpatients as well as counsellors who offer the enhanced counselling sessions for the intervention. By working with such a high concentration of HIV patients, we are gaining a better understanding of the psychosocial factors that impact the HIV epidemic.
