This summer, I am working as a research intern at the Botswana Harvard AIDS Partnership in Gaborone. I am conducting research on the prevalence and molecular characterization of the hepatitis B virus in infants in Botswana. The cohort my fellow researchers and I are analyzing include HIV-exposed but uninfected infants, whose immune systems may be compromised. Our study is also analyzing the vaccine efficacy in these infants, which may lead to a better understanding of how the current administration schedule of three shots within the first year of life is functioning and how it could be improved.
