### When can I declare a secondary field in GHHP? Do I have to apply? expand\_more

You can easily declare GHHP as your secondary once you have chosen a concentration. **Simply sign up on** [**my.harvard**](https://prod-ghhp.drupalsites.harvard.edu/my.harvard.edu)**.** All students are welcome to join GHHP; no applications required. Once you officially declare, [reach out](mailto:ryan_kim@harvard.edu) or [sign up for an advising meeting](https://outlook.office.com/bookwithme/user/77ce92633c96418886108bd40d640ab6@harvard.edu/meetingtype/MKEwy1WXqku7OpbhqndCfg2?bookingcode=e058ff38-139f-4c80-9ae4-54770d4c938d&anonymous&ep=mlink)! You'll be added to GHHP's mailing list to stay informed about GHHP advising resources, courses, research opportunities, etc. If you're a first or second year student, and have not declared yet but intend to pursue the GHHP Secondary, you can ask to be put on our mailing list anyway! [Email us](mailto:ryan_kim@harvard.edu) with your request, house, and year.

### I found a global health/health policy course that is not in the Blue Book. Could it count toward GHHP requirements? expand\_more

Possibly. You can petition to have the course count for one of your additional elective courses. [Email us](mailto:ryan_kim@harvard.edu) with the course syllabus, indicate which category it fulfills and why.

### What is GHHP 91? How do I get approval to enroll in GHHP 91? When/how often does it meet? expand\_more

 [ Learn more about GHHP 91 arrow\_circle\_right ](/ghhp-91)

### What is the difference between GHHP 91 and GHHP 99? expand\_more

[GHHP 99](/ghhp-99 "GHHP 99") is a guided research seminar offered every spring, taught in weekly sections by graduate students. The course ends with a final research paper, usually on a policy recommendation. [GHHP 91](/ghhp-91 "GHHP 91") is similar to an independent study (but graded) where students work independently, under the guidance of a Harvard faculty advisor, to write their research paper. Meeting times are determined jointly by student and advisor.

### Can I take a course pass/fail and count it toward GHHP? expand\_more

Yes, only one of the five courses that count for GHHP can be non-letter graded. (Exception: Two courses may be taken non-letter graded if one is a senior thesis tutorial satisfying the GHHP research requirement.)

### Can you tell me if I've satisfied the GHHP requirements? expand\_more

Yes, [email us](mailto:ryan_kim@harvard.edu) with the five courses that fulfill the GHHP requirements. Be sure to indicate any courses that will double-count.

### Can I do research during the summer or Wintersession? expand\_more

There are **only four** ways to fulfill the research requirement. Some students choose to use research done during the summer or Wintersession as a basis for their GHHP 91 paper written the following term; if you'd like to do that, [reach out](mailto:ryan_kim@harvard.edu) or [sign up for an advising meeting](https://outlook.office.com/bookwithme/user/77ce92633c96418886108bd40d640ab6@harvard.edu/meetingtype/MKEwy1WXqku7OpbhqndCfg2?bookingcode=e058ff38-139f-4c80-9ae4-54770d4c938d&anonymous&ep=mlink) to discuss. The bottom line is that the GHHP research requirement may only be completed by taking a course - either a senior thesis tutorial, GHHP 91 (or other 91R course), or GHHP 99.
